He received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Fukuoka, Japan, in 2003, 2005, and 2007, respectively. He has held research/faculty positions at the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Kagoshima University, Ehime University, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is currently a Professor with the Tohoku University, Miyagi, Japan. Also, he is a founder/CEO at Tokyo Artisan Intelligence Co., Ltd.

His current research interests include logic synthesis, reconfigurable architecture, digital signal processing, embedded systems, and machine learning. Prof. Nakahara is a member of the ACM, the IEEE and the IEICE. He received the 8th IEEE/ACM MEMOCODE Design Contest 1st Place Award in 2010, the SASIMI Outstanding Paper Award in 2010, the IPSJ Yamashita SIG Research Award in 2011, the 11th FIT Funai Best Paper Award in 2012, the 7th IEEE MCSoC-13 Best Paper Award in 2013, and the ISMVL2013 Kenneth C. Smith Early Career Award in 2014. He was the Workshop Chairman for the International Workshop on Post-Binary Ultra Large-Scale Integration Systems in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. He served as the Program Chairman for the International Symposium on 8th Highly Efficient Accelerators and Reconfigurable Technologies (HEART) in 2017 and as the General Chair for the International Conference on 22th Field Programmable Technology (FPT) in 2023.


In 2022, as for his pioneering research and development of AI semiconductors for deep learning, the National Institute for Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) award him as one of 10 "Nice Step Researchers 2022" who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science, technology and innovation. In addition, due to his academic contributions, he was selected as the organizing committee general chair of the international conference on Field Programmable Technology 2023 (FPT'23).
